A JOURNEY DEFINED BY FIRSTS Mrs. Hairat Aderinsola Balogun, OON is a quiet architect of institutional strength within Nigeria’s legal landscape. Her journey is marked not only by historic firsts – the first female Attorney-General & Commissioner for Justice of Lagos State, the first female General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, and the first female Chair of the Body of Benchers, but by the substance of what she gave in those roles. She gave leadership where it mattered most, at the intersection of law and governance, contributing to the reinforcement of respect for the rule of law.
She gave structure to the profession, serving in roles that ensured its continuity, discipline, and integrity. She gave to knowledge, documenting the experiences and evolution of the legal profession and preserving its history, and she keeps giving by relentlessly keeping watch over infractions of professional ethics and by expanding the space for future generations, particularly women, to find their voice within it.
Mrs. Hairat Balogun OON is a Life Bencher who has given leadership to institutions and knowledge to the profession and we have gained a stronger legal system and a more disciplined, structured profession.
